Meet the Principal!
I am deeply honored and humbled to be serving in the role of principal at Big Hollow Elementary School! My name is Michelle Hetrovicz (pronounced Het-row-vitz) I was formerly known as Ms. Dzik) and this is my third year as principal here. I am so excited to be here for another year of learning and growth!
I wanted to take a moment to tell you a little about myself so that you can get to know me a little better. I would also love to meet with you and learn more about you and your child; please don’t hesitate to contact me and set up an appointment.
I began teaching first grade in Grayslake, IL, where I taught for 10 years. While in Grayslake, I also taught second grade. During that time, I earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Roosevelt University. I became a Nationally Board Certified Teacher in 2011. I ventured into administration in 2012 and became an Assistant Principal at Big Hollow Primary and Big Hollow Elementary and held that role for 2 years. Then, I became the Assistant Principal at Big Hollow Middle School where I stayed for 2 years. I am so thrilled to be back at the Elementary building and see your children again! I am honored to also serve the community as the district's ELL/Bilingual Director. I am currently a student at Western Illinois University where I am working on my doctorate in Educational Leadership. I just married my husband, Lou on July 5th! I love reading educational books and articles, traveling, trying out new restaurants, and taking our dog, a Miniature Pinscher named Kurly, for walks in our neighborhood. Lou and I also love spending time with our family and friends!
The Big Hollow Elementary staff and I are honored to have the privilege of working with your child each and every day. We strive to meet the needs of all of our students by making instructional decisions based on multiple forms of assessment data. I am confident that your child’s experience at Big Hollow will enable them to grow, explore, build self-confidence, and develop socially in a variety of ways while fostering their creativity and critical thinking skills.
Thank you for sending your child to us every day and also supporting him or her at home and in our community. I feel passionately that by communicating with one another, we can provide the best opportunities for our students and help them reach their full potential. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
